Following the 2016 World Sailing Annual Conference in Barcelona, where all Olympic events were 'locked' confirmed back for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where it was requested to to all Olympic classes to review with proposals, their racing format in order to have the regattas more easy to understand for media and for spectators at the venue.
All Olympic classes started to work with their race formats and it was agreed that the 2017 year would be the best time to test and eventually to implement a new race format to be used at 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. More on the RSX Class website . . .

The 2017 Downunder Pro took place at Hawks Nest, NSW from 24-27 January but this year it was plagued by light conditions. ......( more )

The RS:One Class, in partnership with the Vietnam Canoeing, Rowing & Sailing Federation will hold the 2017 RS:One World Championships from 10th to 15th June in Hoi An, Vietnam.
The championship, open to all, will allow international racers to compete through innovative race formats like the Pulsar (compact slalom, America's Cup style) and Marathon (long distance). Courses will be set up in a way that the on-shore audience can enjoy the racing.......( more )

World Sailing's headquarters will relocate from Southampton to central London, UK in late summer 2017.
The selection of London as the new home for the International Federation comes after an extensive evaluation process of possible locations undertaken since the election of a new President and Board of Directors in November 2016.......( more )

The notorious Lancelin wind finally came through just after lunch time, with competitors anxious to get in the water at Ledge Point and compete for the title of fastest windsurfer, kitesurfer or paddler in the Lancelin Ocean Classic.
Windsurfers and kitesurfers entered the water at the same time, delivering an absolute spectacle on the horizon for onlookers on the beach. The competition was tooth and nail between Allen and kitesurfer Alty Frisby.......( more )

The 36th Singapore Open Windsurfing Championships featured a few classes but it was the RS One Class that dominated with 42 windsurfers competing in that class - 25 men, 12 women and 5 'grandmasters'.......( more )

At the beginning of December the American Windsurfing Tour (AWT) released their 2017 tour calendar and at the same time announced a change of their name to International Windsurfing Tour (IWT). Seahorse: What made you consider running for this new position?
Kim Andersen: Sailing is a sport with so much potential, we are a life sport. But I truly believe that we can also be a global sport, one that is attractive to participants of all ages and especially the youth. But over the years there was a growing sense of frustration among our members - the potential of World Sailing was not being fulfilled. There also seemed to be a lack of clarity in the process by which World Sailing was making decisions and this was impacting on the commercial success of the sport. ......( more )

Hello all, it is my turn, in 2017, to assume the IWA's Presidency and I will do that with great pleasure.
The 2016 windsurfing year has been good and ended well. Despite the economic, political and social crises all around the world the windsurfing classes continue to work together successfully under the IWA umbrella. In addition, the future is ensured through the Techno 293, which continued its global progression, and the T293 Plus that finished very strongly in its first year and seems to want to follow the pathway of its little sister.......( more )
