Jason Polakow has become the first windsurfer to ride the big wave of Nazare, in Portugal. The Australian wave sailor has finally fulfilled his longtime dream of riding a windsurf board on the monstrous liquid cliffs of Praia do Norte, the spot usually reserved for surfing, bodyboarding and, more recently, skimboarding.
Polakow rode 43-foot waves (13 meters) after carefully studying and preparing the adventure in the last 12 months.......( more )
Kizezers Lake, in Riga, Latvia, will be the host venue for the 2016 Raceboard Masters World Championship. Scheduled to take place from 31st May to 4th June the event includes the Rig Cup for RS:X and Techno 293 racers.......( more )
As sailors again arrived early at the beach for the final day, we all held our breath in hope that perhaps the forecast would somehow be wrong again. As it turned out the wind gods took mercy on us and we had a promising looking breeze building out of the south east by 12pm. ......( more )
Return to Alqueva for first European Cup of 2016

The 2016 Formula Windsurfing European season kicks off with the Alqueva/Monsaraz European Cup from 24th to 27th March. Check out the Notice of Race and send in your entry form.
The biggest event on the local windsurfing calendar and one of the key windsurfing events in Asia, the SIM 35th Singapore Open South East Asian Windsurfing Championship was organised by the Windsurfing Association of Singapore supported by Singapore Sailing Federation.
The multi-class championship event, held during the northeast monsoon season and with the high energy from the SIM students, delivered as expected an exciting event. ......( more )

World Sailing report into discrimination

World Sailing has published its report into discrimination at the 2015 Youth World Sailing Championship in Langkawi, Malaysia.
World Sailing deeply regret that 2 sailors from the Israel Yachting Association (IYA) were unable to compete at the 2015 Youth World Championships due to the conditions imposed by the Malaysian authorities, in order for them to be allowed permission to enter the country and compete at the regatta.
World Sailing has appointed Andy Hunt, former CEO of the British Olympic Association and a non-executive Director of the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games as its new Chief Executive Officer.
"I am delighted to have been selected by the Executive Board to lead World Sailing." Hunt (52) has most recently been Chairman & Managing Partner of Progressive Media Group, an International Media & Business Information group of companies, as well as serving as a non-executive Director of England Hockey & Gloucester Rugby. Hunt has had a highly successful career across both sport and business over the past 30 years.......( more )

The RS:One Class, in partnership with the PWA, the Philippines Sport Commission and the Philippines Olympic Committee, held the 2015 Club Balai Isabel RS:One World Championships from the 7th to 12th December on Taal Lake, Philippines. The championship, opened to all, allowed international racers to compete through innovative race formats such as the Pulsar (compact slalom, America's Cup style).......( more )

Just as the morning before, the postponement flag fluttered under cloudy skies in anticipation of afternoon wind. For some, on this final competition day, it was a tense wait. The wind gods were kind, providing good conditions for three races, making a total of 13 races in all for the championship.
In the men's RS:X fleet, Daniel Flores (VEN-1) is the undisputed champion, 9 points clear of second placed Brenno Francioli (BRA-70). The battle for third place was won by Eduardo Herman (CHI-1) who crossed the finish line ahead of Alessio Botteri in all three of today's races.......( more )
8 countries from 3 continents are represented at the RS:One World Championships which have kicked off with 5 races on the beautiful Taal Lake in the Philippines. On the island of Luzon, it is located just thirty miles from the capital city of Manila and, despite being a lake, the breeze is usually solid at this time of year.
And on day one, Taal Lake certainly lived up to its reputation with winds of 20 knots, gusting 30, for 3 races in the morning followed by 2 after lunch.......( more )
The morning of day four was cloudy, cold and windless. A long wait for competitors keen to make their mark on this championship until the wind finally came in at 1500. Some sun was shining through the fog as it dispersed, heralding good winds for three races during the afternoon.......( more )
