A Risky game in Almanarre
Posted On:  19/04/2017 09:42:52

The first competition day of the 2017 Youth and Masters Slalom Worlds. After the scheduled 10am skippers meeting, the 2 racing areas were set with the Juniors and Youths on one side of the area while the Masters and Girls on the other.

Today's conditions were very tricky with the wind going up and down throughout the day. It was all about paying attention and choosing the right gear set up during the races.

The entire event crew had a full plate with a few rescues, protests and re-arrangements for one of the course areas. Elimination 1 for the girls was sailed up to heat number 4 and the Masters up to heat number 12.

Girls:
New Caledonia's Lilou Granier was in confident vibes after winning the first heat at ease. The next heats for the Girls – scheduled for Wednesday - will be an interesting one towards the first final for the girls.

Masters:
With the 2 Italians:  2015 Slalom Masters World Champion, Andrea Rosatti, and the 2017 Defending Champion, Marco Begalli, already in the semi finals, we cannot wait to see what will happen tomorrow. Others to keep an eye are;  Philip Adamidis from Greece with already 2 bullets, Ludo Jossin from Spain also with 2 bullets and French Men Gilles Rabetaud who has been showing great speeds.

Youths:
A French domination after the first elimination was completed with 2 local heroes on top:  Damien Arnoux, proud and happy, who secured his first victory in one of the challenging divisions and Jimmy Thieme the runner up. Both sailors are from Almanarre and are racing in their backyard.

In third and fourth place were the New Caledonia squad members Damien Cervera and Basile Jacquin the 2016 IFCA Slalom Youth European Champion. The level is high and the next competition days will definitely be an intense one for the youth division.

Juniors:
A new name on top, Nathan Doom from New Caledonia wins the first elimination. Arubas and a multiple IFCA Slalom Champion Nathan Westera was not too far behind and is getting use to the European conditions.

A weird afternoon with shifting winds caused for some delays and re-arranging of one of the racing areas . . .eventually the event was called off for the Masters and Girls which are scheduled to continue tomorrow on the second competition day at the 2017 IFCA Youth & Masters Slalom World Championships.
