Top Talent in Salou and Three Races Kick off the Championship
Posted On:  04/07/2017 07:24:00

The Raceboard World championships have brought some real talent over to Salou, Spain. That being Olympic talent. Young guns will have a chance to match themselves against the likes of Joao Rodriguez, Ivan Pastor, Tuuli Petaja and Blanca Manchon.   With these sailors and many other top athletes from around the world on site there is no telling who is the favourite for the title. It's sure to be an exciting rivalry.

A chilled atmosphere prevailed for registration day, the weather was beautiful with 25oC, sun and with wind ranging from 15 to 20 knots everybody was looking forward to racing. 72 men and 11 women are taking part.

The first racing day started off late with the first start at 13:00. Three races were sailed with wind dropping throughout the day.

It is Ivan Pastor from Spain leading the men with Portugal's Joao Rodrigues in second and Nicolas Huguet from France in third. Here is how Nicolas summed up the day:
"Happy with my speed with 2 first races of 2nd and less with my last start 'plus jamais ca"!!! Really bad start and score UFD by mistake by RC... I came back 7th by the way, hard to do better on a short race ...

"10 knots decreasing to 6 knots for 3 races back to back. I thought I was on holiday but Salou is the venue for the Mediterranean games next year! So I have to record wind stats in prevision of the sailing event!"

Over in the women's fleet Spain's Blanca Manchon leads before Tuuli Petaja-Siren from Finland and her mother Anto Dominguez.

Throughout the event we will be posting any relevant information we have on the event website. Check out our live section for updates - http://worlds2017.raceboard.org/live and our facebook page for videos and photos from Patrik Pollak
