Posted On:  11/09/2018 10:31:53

A total of 82 competitors from 19 nations and 4 continents have signed up for the 2018 Slalom World Championships taking place in Hvide Sande,  Ringkobing Fjord near the WestWind Center from 10 to 14 September.

Croatia's Enrico Marotti and Great Britain's Jenna Gibson secured an early event lead on the event opening day. 3 eliminations completed for the women and 2 for the men, followed by a third for the men in the late afternoon - up to heat 8. The conditions were smooth in the early rounds of racing with bright sunshine and offshore winds from 14 up to 16 knots at the end of the day.

Current Event Leader in the Men's division - Enrico Marotti:
"It's a good beginning and I am happy with my performance today. I managed to stay focused throughout the day, the plan is to continue this way with positive energy as we have 4 more days to go. I am not worried about the end results too much, I just want to do my best, have fun and keep the focus. Also my season is going well and here in Denmark we have great slalom conditions with a high level competitors, especially the top 3 who are pushing very very hard. Anyway let's see what happens, I look forward to tomorrows conditions - windy & rainy - it will be challenging but I am ready for it."

Current Event Leader in the Women's division | Jenna Gibson:
"The conditions are really good, a bit gusty, but good enough to race. I am feeling Ok, I have been using my 7.7 all day, this morning I was on my 129ltr - to get me through the lulls. Later in the afternoon the wind picked up and I switched to my 114ltr board. It's been fun and let's see how the rest of the week goes."

The first competition day here in Hvide Sande, Denmark was successful with a great competitive atmosphere and sailing conditions.
