Posted On:  01/02/2013 12:46:22

Germany has won the pitch to host the IFCA Slalom World Championships 2013. This decision was reveiled today by the International Windsurfing Association (IWA) and the International Funboard Class Association (IFCA).The official Slalom World Championships will be incorporated in the Rollei Summer Opening which takes place in Westerland on the island Sylt from May 8th to 12th. The World Championship is offering a prize money of 15.000 Euro. Besides the discipline slalom the event also offers the disciplines Racing (Formula Windsurfing) and Waveriding. So the windsurfing season 2013 will kick off in Germany with an international high class event.

The IFCA Slalom World Championships will attract numerous of the best slalom riders of the World. The last IFCA Slalom Worlds took place in Greece. Gonzalo Costa Hoevel (ARG-3) from Argentina won the title in front of Bora Kozanoglu (TUR-11) from Turkey. The third place went to the Italian Andrea Rosati (ITA-0). In 2011 the German racing icon Bernd Flessner (GER-16, JP, NeilPryde) dominated the Slalom Worlds on the Dutch island Texel. He won in front of Kasper Larsen (DEN-11) from Denmark and Damien Le Guen (FRA-86) from France.

This year on Sylt the German slalom champion Flessner will be sided by the complete German Windsurfing elite. The numerous fans are looking forward to welcome the reigning German overall champion Sebastian Kordel (GER-220, Lorch, NeilPryde) from Konstanz, the vice- and racing champion Vincent Langer (GER-122, Starboard, Severne) from Kiel and Gunnar Asmussen (GER-88, Patrik, North Sails) from Flensburg besides many others. The level in the German series is high so that several of the national riders hope to score top results at the Slalom Worlds.

Slalom is the fastest IFCA discipline in Windsurfing. The competitors are presenting thrilling position fights and spectacular jibes while blasting over the water with speeds up to 70 kilometres per hour. The riders are starting in groups of which only the faster half is qualifying for the next round. The Slalom races can be started with a minimum of wind force 4.

Besides the sportive activities the Rollei Summer Opening is offering an exciting program for everybody. Various activities, catering and shopping opportunities will call thousands of spectators to the promenade on Sylt. From 6pm the After-Race-Parties will kick-off with chilling lounge music. Interviews, autograph sessions and moderation will entertain the masses. About 80.000 spectators are expected for the event.
