After a 13 race series in the inaugural Azores Formula Windsurfing European Cup it was national champion Miguel Martinho (POR-5) who emerged victorious, just ahead of 2012 European Cup Champion Valentin Brault (FRA-823). Sunny skies greeted competitors and a long distance race was on the cards.  However, the promised wind failed to arrive, unstable in direction and strength, taunting the race committee who decided by mid afternoon that a BBQ provided by the organisers and sight seeing were far more favourable activities than hanging around waiting.  There is every reason to expect four races in good conditions on Saturday with a great forecast.......( more )

The annual competition held on the man made canal in Namibia has come to a close for another year.

After so many records were broken many riders were hopeful that the last Thursday would deliver more wind that would enable the speeds to be pushed a little further, but unfortunately it was not to be. ......( more )

Once again the Downunder Pro returns to Hawks Nest, in New South Wales, Australia.  The event will host the continental (Oceanic) championships for 3 classes - Formula, Raceboard and Techno 293.......( more )

On day nine of the competition in Luderitz the competitors were treated to winds between 40 and 45knots, another great day on the canal and many sailors more than took advantage.  None more so than Antoine Albeau, who increased the record time and again, finally resting at 52.05knots at the end of the day.......( more )

On Saturday 17th more records were broken as the riders in Ludertiz were treated to more fantastic conditions on the canal. 5 windsurfers over 50 knots and Zara Davis took the women's world record up to 45.83knots.

What a phenomenal 5 days of contest here at the AWT final tour stop at Ho'okipa Maui! Everyone was in agreement that there hadn't been a competition like it at Ho'okipa for a very long time. The biggest names in windsurfing from back in the day put up a fierce fight and an epic show against some of the top new names in the sport.......( more )

Held annually since 1972, it has challenged sailors of a wide variety of wind-powered craft to sail as fast as they can over a distance of 500m. February proved again that the wind can be very shifty and light for running events. Great for socialising on the beach but more difficult for setting courses. The 2011 Annual General Meeting of the International Windsurfing Association will take place during the North Sea Cup event scheduled for Ostend in Belgium.  The event takes place over the weekend of May 7th/8th. Details of the exact venue and time of meeting will be published nearer the event.

Thanks to Dario Oliviro from iDo innovation and Italian legend Raimondo Gasperini, more than 100 kids aged 3-14 were introduced to windsurfing in the pool at Rome's BigBlu show last month. The iDo allows the rig to stay upright and learners to save energy and have more fun! Let's hope we see them all out on the water soon!

It was a great event with a good amount of wind Day one with 13-20 knots and Day 2 with 25-35 knots. After 18 rounds in total, Dunedin's Gareth Wood held a clear six-point advantage over James Dinnis (Taranaki) and Rowan Law (Perth), to claim the national title, but as Wood was not racing the Formula 42 board, he did not qualify for the Oceania title. That title went to Law, from Paul Vliestra (Dunedin), second, and Terry Beentjes (Christchurch), third.

Another vid from Patrik - Long day at the office - "Yesterday we had too much wind, today not enough but the race committee is optimistic and waiting for the wind to shift as forecast before sending out the fleets.  Next announcement at 2.00 pm."   2 races for each fleet, all 435 competitors racing, meant they were coming off the water at dusk, as the lights started twinkling!
