Posted On:  17/08/2010 13:24:00
Two more races were completed on the third day of racing in Singapore. The boys were the first to start, and once again 2 laps of a windward /leeward course, in variable and shifty winds. Race 5 was started in 12 knots, with occasional stronger gusts. It was another good day for Rafic Mayan (ISR), with a 2nd and a 4th, who remains top of the overall. A very mixed set of results from Kieran Martin (GBR) with a 1st and a 10th! However the stand out sailor was Michal Cheng (HKG) with a 1st and a 3rd, moving him into silver medal position in overall rankings.

In the girls fleet Neomi Cohen (ISR) had a day to forget, recording a 6th and OCS. Many girls fell foul at the start of race 6 - with 7 being flagged OCS. Local girl Audrey Yong did put in a consistant performance to bring her up to 2nd in the rankings. However sailor of the day was Siripon Kaewduang-Ngam (THA) with a 1st and 2nd to put her top of the girls fleet.

The top 5 positions in each race today were:

Race 5 boys- GBR, ISR, HKG, ARG, FRA.
Race 6 boys- HKG, FRA, KOR, ISR, RUS.

Challenging conditions on day 2 of racing at YOG

Two more races were completed on the second day of racing in Singapore. Today the girls were the first to start, and as yesterday, 2 laps of a windward /leeward course, in light shifty winds faced the young racers. The most consistant performers today were Naomi Cohen (ISR), Valentina Serigos (ARG), and Anastasiya Valkevich (BLR) - each collecting 6 points from the two races.

In the boys it was a good day for Rafic Mayan (ISR), with a 1st and a 2nd, who will take over top slot in the rankings from Kieran Martin (GBR).  Meanwhile two other sailors will have improved their overall positions - Michael Cheng (HKG) and Artem Murashev (RUS) both with 7 points from todays races.

The top 5 positions in each race today were:

Race 3 girls- THA, ISR, ARG, SIN, BLR.
Race 4 girls- BLR, ESP, ARG, ISR, POL.
Race 3 boys- KOR, ISR, HKG, MEX, RUS.
Race 4 boys- ISR, RUS, GBR, HKG, HUN.

Tuesday - YOG kicks off with two races for boys and girls

Racing got underway today in Singapore, with 2 races for both boys and girls. Light winds were the order of the day, 7>9 knots; and 2 laps of a windward/leeward course.

In the boys fleet Kieran Martin (GBR) will be very happy with a 1st and a 2nd place, but i am sure will not be complacent , with a quality field just behind him. That field includes Mayan Rafiah (ISR), Michael Cheng Chun Leung (HKG) and current world silver medal holder Maxime Labat (FRA).

In the girls fleet Audrey Yong Pei Lin (SIN) will be the toast of the town, with a 1st in race 2, and will no doubt raise expectations of the host nation. She will also face very strong competition from current world champion Naomi Cohen (ISR) and world bronze medal winner Veronica Fanciulli (ITA) - all three girls finish the day on 5 points.

Top 5 finishers in races today:

Race 1 boys- GBR, HKG, JPN, KOR, ISR.
Race 2 boys- ISR, GBR, FRA, KOR, HKG.
Race 1 girls- THA, ITA, ISR, SIN, ARG.
Race 2 girls- SIN, ISR, ITA, BLR.
