FW JYM Worlds, Denmark
Posted On:  30/08/2011 13:12:11

Leaders yellow jerseys for best performances today went to Master Andrea Cucchi (ITA 1); GM Luis Marchegger (ITA 6); Youth Sebastian Kornum (DEN 24); Junior Leonardo Venturini (BRA 114); Pro Kid - Karl Erik Saarm (EST 228)

Lighter winds were forecast but a good 10-13 knots prevailed for most of the morning until a shift in direction around midday meant the course had to be reset. Similar wind strength for the afternoon.

Four good races for the ProKids and it's a tough fight between Mads Jepsen (DEN 15) and Karl Erik Saarm (EST 228) with just one point separating them overall.

Sebastian Kornum (DEN 24) has established a firm lead taking three wins today, although Tomas van Zelst (NED 228) took the bullet in race 9. Brazilian Mateus Isaac maintains his second place overall and Jordy Vonk (NED 69) is third overall.

Andrea Cucci (ITA 1) has stormed ahead in the masters fleet by taking three bullets and a second today, giving him a five point lead over Brian Rogild (DEN 173). Adri Keet (NED 34) is in bronze position.

"This organisation has delivered one of the best championships of the class," says Ceri Williams. "So far we have had a great championship, with 12 races completed for masters and 11 for youth. The leader of the day award has been a great innovation and the trophies being prepared for the championship winners are outstanding."

4 good races for the masters with Brian Rogild (DEN 173) taking three bullets but a strong challenge by Andrea Cucchi (ITA 1) gave him the win in race 7. In third place overall is Adri Keet (NED 34).

Three races for the Youths. Sebastian Kornum (DEN 24) still holds on to 1st place overall but just one point ahead. Not his best day's sailing! Jordy Vonk from the Netherlands took the first bullet of the day; Mateus Isaac (BRA 747) won races 6 and 7 and is a serious threat for the top podium position. Third overall Christen Justesen (DEN 26) also had a bad day and is 8 points behind.

We also had three races for very young - the pro kids. Estonian Karl-Erik Saarm got off to a flying start winning the first race but leader of the day is Mads Jepsen (DEN 15) who won the next two races. Martin Hovda from Norway is in third place.

93 competitors from 15 countries are competing at the Formula Windsurfing Junior, Youth and Masters World Championships taking place in Skive, Denmark this week.

Masters were the first to kick off the racing with 18-20 knots in the starting area but nice flat water.

Despite the rain - an enthusiastic crowd of competitors, support teams, families and event volunters assembled yesterday evening for the opening ceremony, followed by a BBQ and entertainment from a local high school rock band.

Congratulations to Christen Bo Justesen and his organising team for a great start to these championships. He has assembled a number of sponsors including title sponsor VOLVO. Many thanks to all the sponsors.
