Posted On:  19/01/2012 09:13:12

From May 16th to 20th the eyes of the Formula Windsurfing World will be focused on Germany as the country will host the Formula Windsurfing European Championships 2012.

The International Windsurfing Association (IWA) and the local organizer Choppy Water GmbH proudly announce that the bid of the country has been accepted by the International Formula Windsurfing Class (IFWC). For the first time since 2003 Germany will host a senior IFWC or IFCA Championship again. The Regatta will take place on the North Sea in front of the Brandenburger Strand in Westerland on the famous German island Sylt. The European Championships will be the sportive highlight of the "Rollei Bullet HD Summer Opening" and offer a total prize money of EUR 15.000,00.

The Rollei Bullet HD Summer Opening will be a mega event officially opening the windsurfing and beach season in Germany. It is the kickoff for the national series Deutscher Windsurf Cup (http://www.windsurfcup.de/). The windsurfing regatta features the two disciplines Formula Windsurfing and Waveriding. In light and medium winds the best racers of the world will prove their skills in spectacular racing in front of the Brandenburger Strand. The European Championships is open to competitors from all over the world. Only the European title is reserved for the best European participant. In strong winds the conditions on Sylt can get too rough for FW. Then it will be the time for the wavers to fight it out in spectacular jumps and thrilling waverides. The wave elimination is open to all competitors as well but the fleet is limited to 64 starting slots. The sportive program is completed by a tour stop of the German SUP Challenge. So even in case of a windless day, there will be action on the water guaranteed.

But the Rollei Bullet HD Summer Opening doesn't only offer sportive highlights. Each day at 18:00 the legendary After-Race-Parties start on the promenade and in the beach club. A band festival calls thousands of spectators to the beach and in front of the event stage with thrilling live acts and free entry. The catering mile on the promenade offers the visitors a rich selection of food and beverages. About 80.000 spectators are expected for the event.

The venue is one of the most famous beaches in Germany if not even worldwide. Every year in the last week of July the final of the German Windsurfing Championships takes place there and the new Champions are crowned. In autumn the PWA visits the place for one of their biggest events. Sylt is known as the island of the beautiful and rich people. So from May 16th to 20th the Formula Windsurfing competitors can enjoy this great place.

The NoR will be published at the beginning of February as well as the travelling and accommodation infos. If you have any questions about the event you are welcome to contact the local organizer Choppy Water (contact details below)
