Raceboard Worlds Final
Posted On:  15/06/2012 09:06:26

Racing at the Raceboard Worlds is over. Final results are in.

After a long postponement it was only possible to do one race on the final day of the championships. Early afternoon the postponement flag came down in anticipation of two races back to back which would give racers a second discard in a twelve race championship.

Race 11 got under way in 6-8 knots. Max Wojcik, POL 7, was late leaving the beach and did not make the start allowing Patrik Pollak, SVK 1, to take the bullet in this race.

Race 12 was started but abandoned half way through - the wind dropped and became very unstable.

So, to the prizegiving. Congratulations to Max Wojcik, POL 7, for regaining the title of Raceboard World Champion title with a perfect score. Patrik Pollak, SVK 1, took second place overall and first Master; and Daniel Blinnikka, FIN 5, was third and also first Youth. Juha Blinnikka, FIN-6, was first Grandmaster in 5th overall;  first Woman was Tuuli Petaja, FIN-1, 8th overall.

Our thanks go to the Yyteri Surfcentre and the Finnish Boardsailing Association who have once again proved to be excellent hosts. The race team have pulled a great championship out of the bag with good tactical racing despite the fickle winds.

Thanks also to our sponsors: Lankapaja Corporation, Varte, Terhi Boats, Teboil, Rautio Sports

Day Four - Clear skies and a light, but promising breeze, were soon replaced by fog and no possibility of starting racing at the Raceboard Worlds. AP finally came down and racing started at 15.35. The wind was around 7 to 8 knots and just two races were possible today but it looked great on the water.

Top seven places remain as yesterday and Max maintains his perfect performance. Petr Kucera managed to break Patrik Pollak's run of second places by beating him in race ten. First woman Tuuli Petaja has gained a place and is now eighth overall.

With tomorrow being the last day of the championship gold and silver positions are assured but Petr Kucera is just 2 points behind Daniel Blinnikka and the battle will be on for the bronze position. However, the forecast is for light wind and a change of direction yet again.

Racing Day Three - Max Wojcik, POL 7, appears unbeatable as he has won all eight races of the competition so far, and Patrik Pollak, SVK 1, has taken second in all eight.

One discard now applies. Youth Daniel Blinnikka, FIN 5, has worked his way up the leaderboard from 6th to 3rd overall in front of Petr Kucera, CZE 15, while Grandmaster Juha Blinnikka, FIN 6, maintains his fifth position. 1st woman, Tuuli Petaja, FIN 1, who will be representing Finland in the Weymouth Olympic Regatta, has moved up a place to 9th overall.

Results after 8 races

On day two fog and no wind greeted the racers when they arrived at the beach. Unfortunately the wind did not get above 4 knots all day, so no racing.

There was a lack of wind at the start of day three too but after a short postponement the wind filled in with a good 10 knots, forecast to increase during the day. Two races back to back saw the wind dropping at the end of the second race with sailors having to work hard to finish! After a well earned break ashore for lunch two more races, back to back, were set for the afternoon in 8/9 up to 12 knots. As racing finished for the day the forecast finally came good with 20-25 knots!

The afternoon was rounded off by display from a "sky diving" team, refreshments at the club and a great solo entertainer. Lots of sore hands and blisters but a relaxed and friendly atmosphere rounded off another great day.
