4 more excellent Championship races on Day 2
Posted On:  21/12/2012 09:31:19

On day two of the Paracas World Championships 4 more races - two in winds stronger than the day before. The first three races of the day were run on course A, as the day before, then course B was introduced for the final race.

At the skippers meeting there was very little sign of wind - but it soon started to build and it built very fast to a strong stable breeze ranging from 15>20 knots, increasing to 20>25 knot for the last races.

Heavyweight Brazilian Paulo Dos Reis, current South American Champion, is revelling in these conditions. He appears to be unbeatable with an unassailable lead, winning all eight races so far. Pablo Ania Barrachina (ESP-16) and Nicolas Schreier (PER 2), 2nd and 3rd placed racers overnight, retained their position at the end of the day. First Master, Marcello Morrone (BRA 3) currently lying fourth on the leaderboard, is posting very consistent results as is first Youth Gabriel Bastos, also from Brazil, in seventh overall.

Leading woman, Bruna Mello, maintaining the Brazilian domination of division titles, seemed to improve as the wind grew stronger.

Alessio Botteri (Peru) continued his dominant performance in the FE Junior fleet, taking bullets in every race so far; but he was joined by some great performances from other 14 and 15 year olds in the very windy conditions. No change in the order on the leaderboard for the junior fleet but second to fourth places, all on equal points the day before, are now separated after some very keen competition. Special mention for 12 year old Simon Sousa who is nothing if not consistent - 5th in every race and certainly one to watch in the future.
