64 participants from 14 countries are taking part in the IFCA Slalom World Championships 2013, from 8 to 12 May as part of the Rollei Summer Opening in Westerland on Sylt. Prize money of eur15,000.00 and the prestigious “IFCA Slalom World Champion 2013” title are at stake.[more]
Three of the top four riders in the last World Cup will meet each other again on Sylt. Vice World Champion Bora Kozanoglu from Turkey is a favourite at the start and Italian Andrea Rosati, third placed in 2012 along with Maciek Rutkowski from Poland, fourth.
The wind forecast for the race looks excellent: to force eight wind and waves of 3 meters will transform the North Sea island of Sylt in the coming days in a perfect arena for the World Windsurfing Championships. However, some of the competitors from southern countries more used to 20 degrees on the water may find the temperatures around ten degrees a shock to the system.
This might be an advantage for the German favorites. They are not only the harsh conditions of Sylt, but also the temperatures they are used to. But even without this home advantage we can hope for a strong performance from the German competitors.
On Wednesday 8 May the first start is scheduled to sound at 11:00 clock and racing continues until Sunday, 12th May. Approx. 80,000 visitors are expected to attend the event. In addition to the Windsurfing, visitors can enjoy the restaurant mile on the boardwalk and the event tent.
