The German Windsurfing Association (GWA) is the new official national class association (NCA) representing the shortboard classes International Formula Windsurfing Class (IFWC) and International Funboard Class Association (IFCA) in Germany.[more]
The GWA is the official class association of the GWA Windsurf Cup (www.windsurfcup.de) which is the highest national windsurfing series in Germany. In close co-operation with the event agency Choppy Water GmbH the GWA is scheduling the regattas and taking care of the ranking lists. The GWA is also managing the sail numbers for the German competitors who take part in its regattas.
The GWA has been recognized by the German Sailing Federation (DSV – Deutscher Segler-Verband). Now the IWA has also confirmed the status of the GWA as official NCA.
As NCA the German Windsurfing Association is responsible to represent Germany at the annual general meetings (AGM) of the IFCA and the IFWC as well as at the AGM of the IWA. The GWA is also responsible to select the representatives for the IWA sanctioned class championships.
The change only applies for the shortboard classes International Funboard Class Association (IFCA) and International Formula Windsurfing Class (IFWC). The longboard classes (Raceboard, RS-X and Techno 293) remain unaffected and will also in the future be represented by the DWSV.
This is the final step of a process to establish a new structure for windsurfing in Germany under the umbrella of the German Sailing Federation and the International Windsurfing Association (IWA) where the shortboard classes are represented by the German Windsurfing Association and the longboard classes by the DWSV.
