Soma Bay is a coastal resort on the Red Sea in Egypt, 45 km south of Hurghada International Airport. The self-contained community of Soma Bay is a peninsula surrounded on all sides by the sea. About 5 km in length and 2 km wide, the peninsula is accessed via a 7 km private road through a single controlled entry gate.[more]
The WINDSURF SCHOOL RED SEA powered by SurfMotion (afterwards named as SurfMotion) is a wind- and kite- surf center in Abu Soma Bay on the Red Sea, in the grounds of the Palm Royale Resort Soma Bay. The centre and school, owned and established by Peter Mueller, opened in 2005 and since then has grown continually to become one of the biggest water sports centres in Egypt.
What did SurfMotion have in mind when they bid to host the IFCA Youth and Masters World Championship? “Our main goal is to organise a perfect World Championships for the competitors and for the world windsurfing associations!” responded Peter Mueller. “In close cooperation with the Palm Royale Resort we set our sights on presenting our region (Egypt, Red Sea, Hurghada, Soma Bay) as a high class windsurfing spot with perfect wind and water conditions where you can train all year long, associated to an extraordinarily high quality five star hotel where it is highly recommended to spend your holidays with your whole family.”
“Flights to Hurghada are very affordable, the transfer to the station or to the hotel will be organised for you and our partner, the Palm Royale Soma Bay Resort, offers attractive prices for accommodation. This sport lives, we are part of it and we want to make our contribution. I myself entered the slalom windsurfing competition scene a few years ago. Now I want to offer an event “by surfers for surfers” for the participants, most of whom will be amateurs, and leave no wish unfulfilled,”
said Peter.
