Hola amigos, and welcome to El Puerto de Santa Maria, where we are the guests of the Club Nautico Puerto Sherry for an event also supported by the RFEV, FAV and the Marina Puerto de Santa Maria. The venue, once a fishing port just to the north of Cadiz, on that perfect stretch of Atlantic coast leading in from Portugal’s Algarve to the famous spot of Tarifa, just a stone’s throw from Morocco. A venturi paradise and the perfect location for the 2019 Techno293 World Championships, the most dynamic and popular windsurf class in the world today. [more]
That’s why it has attracted the exceptional number of 369 entrants from 36 countries to the south of Spain in late October, a beautiful location with excellent weather prospects, an appreciative public, and with a fantastic week of racing in prospect. There are World Champion titles at stake and many of the best young sailors in the world are here ready to challenge for them.
Saturday and Sunday were taken up with registration, and a practice race to give everyone, including the race committee, a chance to adjust to the conditions. Then on to the official formalities featuring the class president Marc Cardon at an opening ceremony that was held at the beautiful Puerto Sherry Marina.
The wind kicks in later here and we are keen to be out for Monday’s first possible start scheduled for 13:00hrs.
