“The lake at Potrerillos will be covered by the worlds finest ..” announced Governor Celso Jaque in the Patricias Mendocinas lounge of the provincial Government House.


From 21 to 28 March, Mendoza will host the World Championship in Formula Windsurfing class.  The competition organized by the Asociacion Mendocina (AMW, the Mendoza Windsurfing Association) will be monitored by the Federación Argentina (FAW, Argentine Windsurfing Federation) and supported by the Government of Mendoza through the Ministry’s of Sports, Tourism and Environment.  Additional support comes from the Municipality of Lujan.


The competition, which will have its first day of racing on Sunday 21, will feature the best exponents on the international circuit.  Confirmed in the fleeet are competitors from Poland, Spain, Holland, France, Chile, Brazil, Italy, USA, who will join the representatives of Argentina, including from Mendoza.


During the presentation, Beatriz Pelleriti (President of the AMW) said: “I thank the Government of Mendoza and the city of Lujan because they have made it possible to organize the largest international windsurfing tournament in our province.”


The head of Sports, Martin Aveiro, added: “This worlds will enable us to create a development center for water sports . . .”


For his part the governor said “I am increasingly convinced that when efforts are united, they multiply.  The work of the Association is very good and I think this tournament will show the Mendoza attractions worldwide.


The ceremony was attended by, among others: the Governor of Mendoza, Celso Jaque; the Secretaries of Sports, Tourism & Environment, Martin Aveiro, Luis Bohm and Guillermo Carmona; Mayor of Lujan, Omar Parisi; and Beatriz Pelleriti, president of the AMW.
