Prizegiving – Marco Begalli (Master) and Jacek Piasecki (Youth) were crowned 2010 European Formula Windsurfing Champions[more].  Competitors and race committee alike were ready to go but regrettably the wind deserted the last two days of the competition.

Day Three – Another morning with no wind but, as yesterday, the AP came down at midday.  However, with the wind refusing to reach 7 knots, sailors waiting for the start for over half an hour were returned to the beach as it was just too hot on the water!

At 2.00 the Race Officer decided to try again – wind was 10-11 knots on the course – and at last Race 3 was under way . . . followed by Race 4 . . . then Race 5!  Hopes were dashed for Race 6 which was started but quickly abandoned.

After 5 races the leading sailors in each fleet are: Youth – POL 13, POL 83, FRA 32, POL 44, POL 23 Master – ITA 415, ITA 60, BRA 5, ITA 163, ITA 5.

Results after 5 races

Day Two – AP came down at midday when the wind had settled at 8-10 knots.  It was Italian master Marco Begali’s race as he led young Pole Michal Aftowicz over the finish line then masters Giuseppe Pugliese and Mathias Pinheiro saw off youth Jacek Piasecki over the line.

The wind dropped after this race, sailors were sent to the beach to wait, but it was not possible to start another.  Conditions were the same as the day before – just a small window of opportunity to get one race.  These conditions are unusual for early July in Cagliari!

Every night is pasta night, but tonight was special – a sailor dinner in the grounds of the club.

On Day One, it took until after lunchtime for the wind to build to 10-12 knots so it was early afternoon when Race 1 got under way, all competitors starting together, on perfectly flat water. [more] Two laps of a windward leeward course and Youth Jacek Piasecki from Poland was 1st over the finish line followed by fellow countryman Michal Aftowicz, also a youth.  Mathias Pinheiro from Brazil, 3rd to the finish line, was 1st Master.

Regrettably the wind did not hold and race 2 was abandoned after the start, sailors were sent back to the beach.  By 6.30 the Race Committee decided no more racing for the day.  Better luck tomorrow!

55 competitors from 14 countries registered for the Formula Windsurfing European Festival in Cagliari. The opening ceremony was followed by a pasta party.
