Good news for the Formula Windsurfing scene! The FW Class have selected one of Germany’s most prestigious events, the “Volvo Surf Cup”, to put on the calendar of the FW European Cup. [more]The event incorporates the German Windsurfing Championships and is the highlight of the national tour “Rollei Windsurf Cup”. The Volvo Surf Cup takes place in Westerland on the island Sylt (Germany) from July 24th to 28th.

As a surprise for many riders and the FW Class the event had to be removed from the calendar of the continental FW series as the Deutsche Windsurfing Vereinigung (DWSV / German Windsurfing Association) wanted to run the German Championships as a pure national regatta. Competitors from foreign countries wouldn’t have been allowed to participate in the event. Under these conditions it was not possible to keep the regatta as a tour stop of the FW European Cup.

Now the plan has been revised. The Volvo Surf Cup 2013 will be an open event like all the last years. This makes it also possible to re-include the event in the FW European Cup. Last year the event was a big success with not less than 120.000 spectators who visited the event over the five days of the regatta. They followed the action of 66 competitors over 3 races and 5 complete slalom eliminations. The competitors had a great time enjoying the great event and the island vibes including the infamous party nights that some of them may still feel in their heads . . .
