Home advantage really paid off on the first racing day at the 2013 Techno 293 European Championships in Eilat, Israel. Israel command 1st place in all four divisions, with 4 different countries breaking into each division’s top 3 to spoil the party for the hosts![more]

As so often happens, the stronger winds of the previous 2 preparation days gave way to light winds. Championship rules permitted a maximum of 2 races today in these conditions – and the race committee wasted no time getting down to business. On the scheduled time the first race got underway – and it was to be the race with the better winds, which guaranteed a different winner in each of the 4 competition divisions.

Techno 293 Europeans Gets Under Way in Eilat

Competitors in the 2013 Techno 293 European Championships have been welcomed to the Nautical Centre in Eilat, a place where the sun always shines, with an impressive display of country flags flying at the Opening Ceremony.[more] 131 competitors are taking part in the championship, from 17 countries plus Israel.  Two countries new to the international scene, Slovenia and Slovakia, have joined the European line up and are a sure sign that the Techno 293 Class is continuing to grow.

The Practice Race has been run and everyone is enjoying the wonderful hospitality and friendly atmosphere.

2 races a day are planned. Wind at the start of the competition looks light, despite the previous four months of good wind! However, confidence is high that the wind will return by the end of the championship. In the meantime competitors will have to learn to take advantage of wind shifts and gusts which should make for interesting racing.
