“We have put enormous efforts into the preparation for the Windsurfing Euro-Cup tour 2015. The confirmation of the Windsurfing Euro-Cup Urla-Izmir as final event for the tour 2015 is a great success. Turkey has an extremely strong slalom competition scene. With the addition of the Windsurfing Euro-Cup Goeztepe, all these competitors have a chance to score one event in their home waters now. This makes it even more interesting for many of the Turkish racers to participate in the whole Windsurfing Euro-Cup series 2015. Furthermore I am happy to announce that we have agreed on a 3-year-contract. So the event is also confirmed for the years 2016 and 2017!” smiles Matthias Regber from the Windsurfing Euro-Cup Office.
The date of the Windsurfing Euro-Cup final 2015 has been carefully chosen. The regatta is scheduled directly after the PWA event in Alacati. This makes the Windsurfing Euro-Cup Urla-Izmir very attractive for many competitors as the venue is just around the corner. So the racers can participate in two events and only need to travel once. The prize money of eur 15.000,00 will invite a strong fleet in quality and quantity.
Goeztepe club was established in 1925, one of the oldest and most famous clubs in Turkey from Izmir. The club has lots of important successes in different sport divisions. Goeztepe Sailing Branch was established in 1958 and has great international victories especially during 1980s. The club has some of the hottest and biggest supporters in Turkey.
“We are proud to host the Windsurfing Euro-Cup in Turkey. Goeztepe Club will put big efforts into the Windsurfing Euro-Cup Urla-Izmir to make the event an unforgettable experience for the competitors. It is a special honor for us that we are staging the final of the 2015 Euro-Cup tour as we can crown the official IFCA Slalom European Champion in Turkey this year. Goeztepe is giving big importance in Windsurfing and we are sailing in a great spot which is always windy,” said Tayfun Onur, head of Goeztepe Windsurf Branch.
The venue is perfect for windsurfing competitions. In August we expect between 25 to 30 degrees air and over 20 degrees water temperatures. Wetsuits may only be necessary for protection against the sun. The thermic wind is expected to blow between 15 and 25 knots and should provide perfect slalom conditions.
