Today was another day of light wind racing for the 335 competitors gathered in Sopot, Poland with races conducted in 6 -8 kts.  “I like racing in light wind conditions.  The forecast shows stronger winds later in the week, but that is just fine, I’m prepared.  I think I’ll fight for the podium throughout the regatta.  My biggest rivals are Giorgia Speciale from Italy and Shira Benbenisti from Israel.  The point difference is not so big now, so I hope to fight for the gold medal”, said the local sailor Lidia Sulikowska. Lidia is third overall trailing to Giorgia and Shira.
If you were to pick the best performing nation at the Europeans it would definitely be Israel.
The boys in the under 15 fleet are just phenomenal, especially Eyal Zror, who won all six races.  The other two podium places are also taken up by sailors from Israel.  Then in the youth boys in second is Gad Matosevich and Itai Kafri is third.  The success Israel has had in high level windsurfing regattas comes from hard training both at home and abroad.  “At this time of year it is too hot to train during the day so we start our first training session at 6:00 in the morning, and the next one in the evening”, says Ronnie Meir, the team leader.
But Israel is not the only strong windsurfing nation here and you can be sure that the French and Italians will be fighting for medals.
