Sebastian Kornum from Denmark took line honours after the first race of the RS:X Convertible Championships:

“I am happy to be back here in Azores and race again. Last time was on Formula gear, but this time on foils is honestly even more fun. Taking the win in the first race today was a great feeling. It’s a good way to start a championship! [more]We probably still have 15 races to go, and it will for sure be a great fight for the podium places between PWA and Olympic riders making it all really exciting at this first ever RSConvertible Championship!”
Despite a promising forecast it was only possible to complete this one race for the men’s division. Meanwhile the women’s fleet suffered multiple delays and false starts before they were sent back to the beach to await an improvement in conditions.
Praia da Vitoria, on the island of Terceira in the Azores, can deliver epic conditions for windsurfing competitions; but it can also present surprises. Today was no exception; but all involved with the championship are looking forward to tomorrow . . . stay tuned for live coverage of this inaugural championship in the discipline of “wind-foil” racing!
