The fourth day of the IFCA Slalom World Championships as part of the Multivan Summer Opening initially brought a well-deserved break for the participants. In the evening the wind picked up, so that two more races in foil racing could be started. The winner of both races was Vincent Langer (GER-1) from Kiel, who now leads the overall foil racing standings of the event. [more]
In the first race, Vincent Langer and Gunnar Asmussen (GER-2) fought a thrilling duel for the lead, which Langer finally won. Langer relegated Asmussen to the second place. On third place Leon Delle (GER-6) from Kiel followed ahead of Michele Becker (GER-277) from Bargteheide and the Danish Jonas Thyme (DEN-171).
In the second foil race, Julien Pockrandt (GER-18) from Rostock surprisingly led the field for a long time before being overtaken by Vincent Langer. Lars Paustian (GER-1999) from Kiel and Michele Becker were also part of the leading group for a long time. Finally, Langer won ahead of Asmussen and Delle. Fourth was Julien Pockrandt in front of Michele Becker in fifth place.
After two races, the foil’s overall standings are led by Vincent Langer with 1.4 points. Gunnar Asmussen (4.0 points) lies on second place ahead of Leon Delle (6.0 points). Michele Becker follows in fourth place with 9.0 points ahead of Jonas Thyme (11.0).
Tomorrow promises perfect conditions for the windsurfing elite with up to eight wind forces. Then it will become clear which rider of the current slalom leading trio, Gunnar Asmussen, Vincent Langer and Damien Cervera (FRA-422) from France, can gain further important points on the way to the IFCA Slalom World Championship. The conditions will be demanding, so the spectators can expect rapid speed duels and exciting battles at the buoys.
In addition to the slalom races, the discipline wave is scheduled for tomorrow. The wind forecast promises epic conditions especially in the afternoon. Sideshore winds with gusts of more than 40 knots promise excellent conditions for high-class waveriding. The best waveriders of Germany will make their way to the beach of Westerland, and show a spectacular show of wave rides and jumps.
