On the third day of the IFCA European Slalom Championships Borkum again offered excellent conditions for the discipline Foil Slalom. With four wind forces and bright sunshine three more Slalom eliminations could be raced. Thousands of spectators could watch the races from the promenade, as the course was laid out close to the shore. The fight for the European Slalom title between the reigning Multivan Windsurf Cup Champion Michele Becker (GER-277, Patrik) from Kiel and the World Cup Pro Nico Prien (GER-7, JP, Neil Pryde) from Schönberg became more interesting. Prien could continue where he had left off the day before and secured two wins in the races. In the last race Michele Becker won again, who therefore keeps the title of European Champion in sight.
In the first race of the day Nico Prien won. While he may have benefited from Becker’s absence due to injury the day before, he now proved that he is capable of beating his opponent even in a direct duel. Michele Becker finished close behind in second place, leaving Prien only slightly behind. Pierre Macquaert (FRA-945, JP, Neil Pryde) secured third place, while Italian Ennio Dal Pont (ITA-456, Fanatic, Duotone) moved closer to the podium with a fourth place. Dutch World Cup pro Ingmar Daldorf (NED-191, Tabou, GA Sails) met the expectations with fifth place. Nico Prien also won the second elimination of the day. Becker, however, again came in second. But now Prien threatened to become a danger for Becker’s title ambitions. Jonne Heimann (GER-107, JP, Neil Pryde) followed in third place, his second podium finish at this regatta. Ingmar Daldorf was able to improve once again with fourth place. Scotty Stallman (GBR-68, Tabou, GA Sails) completed the top-5. In the last race of the day Michele Becker found back to his old form and secured the victory. This time Prien had to accept second place. After failing to perform properly in the first two races of the day, Fabian Wolf (GER-404, FMX Racing, Gun Sails) showed himself strong in the last race and took third place. Frenchman Pierre Macquaert increased the pressure on the top with a fourth place. The British Scotty Stallman ran in 5th place again. After three days of competition, a total of eight eliminations were completed at the IFCA European Slalom Championships as part of the Multivan Windsurf Cup Borkum. In the results list, the riders can thus cross off their three worst results. The event ranking is still led by Michele Becker. The rider from Kiel can record his impressive performance with the ideal score of 0.0. Since he even has two second places as discards, he is in a promising position to be honored as European Champion on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at the final day. Nico Prien follows in second place with 4.0 points. The Schönberger was the winner of the third day of the competition and has brought himself within striking distance for the fight for the title on the final day. The final decision for the European title has thus been postponed to the last day of the event. Theoretically, up to three eliminations would still be possible on Sunday and could lead to changes in the standings.
With a clear gap and 16.0 points Fabi Wolf is in third place. He will have to give everything again on the final day to defend his podium position. Four points behind him is Italian Ennio Dal Pont (23.0 points) in fourth place. Scotty Stallman from Great Britain completes the top five with 24.0 points. Only four points separate the drivers in positions four to nine. Here, too, everything is still open before the final day. The special performance of French World Cup rider Justine Lemeteyer (FRA-171, FMX Racing, S2 Maui) has to be highlighted. She competes in the men’s field and currently occupies a sensational twelfth place there. The exceptional athlete even made it to the final once. She has thereby proven her strength to numerous men from the world’s slalom elite.
