The clock is running down at the 2019 Techno 293OD World Championships, just two more days of racing scheduled before we know the names of our new World Champions.
But it’s been another difficult day for all concerned. Despite the best efforts of the Race Committee to get yesterday’s proceedings underway as early as possible (the crew was onsite at 7.00am setting up the tracking devices) there was one big absentee: the wind. [more]
It’s been another day for light wind specialists, to say the least. But even they have struggled to find consistent results, so the leader boards of all the fleets are still wide open. Nothing is decided yet and nobody is sure of a medal. Wind or no wind, there are two more racing days to go, and although only one fleet still has a chance of a full schedule, we will certainly have new World Champions on Saturday.
The mentioned Class Division being Junior Boys, with 6 races completed, and it’s still Israel’s Daniel Halperin who’s leading the way, with the persistent Italian Francesco Forani in second place and Spain’s Billy Coll Tulloch making his consistency count, now in third place. In junior Girls the Israeli team is still well placed with Danielle Ziv and Tamar Steinberg first and second, but Spain’s Azul Sanchez Vallejo has now moved into third place ahead of Israel’s Shir Kravetc.
The Youth girls managed to complete another two races, and it has left overnight leader Cheuk Wing Mak from Hong Kong still holding on to top spot, with Spain’s Naira Fernandez jumping up to second place, and France’s Jade Bruche slipping down to third. The Youth Boys didn’t finish a race yesterday and will continue their qualifications today.
Fingers crossed for some more decisive conditions in the next two days, so we can give all these amazing young sailors a good reason to have made the journey to Cadiz.
