Six races in three days in a beautiful, but also challenging, Mondello wraps up the qualification series of the Youth Olympic Games Qualifier for Europe.
Challenging for sure, as Race Officer Ewa Jodlowska explains, “Yesterday for example the wind looked promising, but unfortunately it was shifty and unstable, so after one race we had to wait and decided to move to a different racing area. Eventually that didn’t help and that race was the only one we managed to conduct. Today the wind window was also short, but we managed to finish the elimination phase for Youth Men and add another two races for the Women.” [more]
Despite the difficult conditions, you can see that the sailors are really satisfied with the regatta. The atmosphere of the place is great and surroundings beautiful. Asked whilst waiting for the wind to pick up Russia’s Dana Kosyak said she was always happy and that she liked these kind of wind conditions. Eda Yavuz from Turkey prefers strong wind. “I’m still waiting for my strong wind to come, but I really like this equipment so you’ll see me around,” she said.
The ladies are led by Giorgia Speciale, who won all races but one. Dana is second and third overall is Cheuk Wing Mak from Hong Kong. Over at the men’s it is France, Greece and France in top places as Yun Pouliquen has taken the top spot followed by Leonidas Tsortanidis and Tom Garandeau.
Racing continues tomorrow at 11:00 with forecasts showing some hope of a stronger breeze.
