In his welcoming address to the competitors, officials and guests, Mr Ng Ser Miang (Chairman of the Organizing Committee) said: “Tonight, we witness the birth of the Youth Olympic Games and share with the world this historic moment. Tonight, we welcome 3,600 Young Olympians to Singapore; and over the next 12 days we will witness these outstanding talents from the 204 National Olympic Committees compete in 26 Olympic sports.
The Young Olympians will compete against each other in sports and they will also come together to take part in the Culture and Education Programme as friends and partners”
