France, Great Britain, Israel, Poland, Russia and Spain secured spots in the windsurfing events at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games at the Techno 293 European Championships and YOG Qualifier held in Cadiz, Spain.[more]
Two races were completed in all divisions on the final day of racing at the 2010 Techno 293 European Championships. It was also the day that the first qualification places for the Singapore Youth Olympic Games (YOG) were decided. A very wide mixture of conditions over the week-long competition tested the sailors and as is so often the case, consistency won the day!
France dominated the podium in the Boys’ and Girls’ Under 17 divisions, taking five of the six medals including gold for Gael Cousin in the Boys’ fleet and Hanna Idziak in the Girls’. Meanwhile Italy’s Mattia Camboni and Marta Maggetti won, respectively, the Boys’ and Girls’ Under 15 divisions.
The Techno 293 is equipment for the Boys’ Windsurfer and Girls’ Windsurfer events at the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games and the Europeans in Cadiz was the first of seven qualifying events. There were four YOG places available in both boys and girls divisions – only those sailors born in 1994 and 1995 could qualify their countries.
In the Boys’ event, France, Great Britain, Israel and Russia qualified for a place in Singapore, whilst in the Girls’, France and Israel again were joined by Poland and Spain.
The next qualification event for the windsurfers is the Techno 293 Oceanic Championship taking place in Australia from 6-10 January 2010.
