The sun returned for the final day in Conil and by late morning the wind could be seen arriving over the sea.  First start was scheduled for 12.30 and the Race Committee were on station in front of the restaurant [more]but diners, spectators and competitors alike had to wait – the wind was taking its time building to 9 knots.

Yet again the shorebreak proved challenging – even Latvian Ansis Dale, quite used to these conditions, was careful having broken two masts already this week!  Just the one race was possible in the time allowed and he scored his best result of the week with a second place.  Race winner was Fernando Martinez so he regained silver position overall, knocking Ivan Pastor back into bronze.

Worthy European Cup event winner was Valentin Brault (FRA 823) with a perfect score of 8 after 2 discards in the 10 race series.

Lithuanians Rytis Jasiunas and Arvydas Moliusis took Formula Windsurfing European Youth and Master titles.  Sadly there were not enough ladies competing to award the FW European Women’s title but Estonian Annika Valkna was winner of the Conil Cup

El Timon de Roche was an excellent venue and the Race Committee produced a great series of races – huge thanks to everyone involved.

Rain and storms overnight prompted the race committee to plan to run the first two races of the day launching from the harbour due to the shore break.  And what a drop in the temperature![more]

Unfortunately the wind didn’t want to play, just one race was possible in around 11 knots, and Valentin Brault took his now customary bullet.  Ivan Pastor sneaked into second place as Fernando Martinez scored a DNF for this race 9 – but only one point separates these two Spaniards.

The forecast for the final day’s racing does not look promising but, ever hopeful, the forecast for the beginning of the Championship was not so great either!
