The fourth day of the Rollei Summer Opening presented by Volkswagen Nutzfahrzeuge in Westerland on Sylt welcomed the competitors and spectators with 17 to 25 knots. Furthermore the competitors had to deal with onshore wind and huge waves. These conditions demanded a lot of talent and experience from the riders. [more]Vincent Langer (GER-1, RRD, Point-7) from Kiel defended his first place and is leading the Slalom results after seven Slalom eliminations with 5,0 Points. He is followed by Slalom World Champion from 2013 Gunnar Asmussen (GER-88, Patrik, North) and yesterday’s winner Sebastian Kornum (DEN-24).

The first Slalom elimination started at 10:30 am with a downwind course. Wind force six made the conditions perfect for the slalom discipline. Some of the competitors really had to fight with the increasing height of the waves which made it really hard to enter the water. Gunnar Asmussen finished the first race of the day in first position after a hard battle with Dennis Mueller (GER-89, F2, Gun Sails). Vincent Langer had to settle for third place.

The waves increased even more which led to really hard conditions for the Windsurfers. The new starting time was directly announced after the first Race. More and more surfers had to fight with the shorebreak. Vincent Langer settled the second race in his favour. He was followed by Gunnar Asmussen and Sebastian Kornum.

The third and last race of the day was decided to be a full-fleet Slalom. Unfortunately some of the surfers didn’t made it to the start because of the big waves and the shorebreak. Even very experienced competitors couldn’t reach the start in time. After an exciting battle between the best three, Mueller, Kornum and Langer, it was Vincent Langer who decided the race in his favour. Dennis Mueller from Norderney reached second place followed by Sebastian Kornum from Denmark.

Vincent Langer is leading the Overall Ranking with the ideal number of 5,0 points. Gunnar Asmussen follows in second position with 13,0 points. Sebastian Kornum, Dennis Mueller and Fabian Mattes complete the Top-5.

Vincent Langer: “The conditions have been extreme today. With the result of the last race I now have to share the 1st Place in the Overall Ranking of Slalom and Formula with Sebastian Kornum. Unfortunately, if there is no more Slalom tomorrow this positioning might not change until the end of the regatta. I’m now just focusing on the last day tomorrow.”

The Race commitee decided around midday that there will be no more races today. The safety of the competitors and the regatta crew couldn’t be guaranteed for more races. The competitors are now looking forward to the Live-band Urban Beach and the Chiemsee Summer Opening Party @ American tonight.

The forecast for tomorrow promises perfect conditions for some Formula Races. We expect wind force 4 to 5.
