Just as in the days before, the wind at the Rollei Summer Opening presented by Volkswagen Nutzfahrzeuge blew everybody away and offered perfect conditions for windsurfing. This enabled us to run four Formula Races with constant wind of force four to five. Sebastian Kornum (DEN-24, JP, Neilpryde) and Christian Justesen (DEN-26, RRD, Point-7) absolutely showed off their best form.[more] Justesen was able to win one of the races, Kornum was the winner of the rest of the races.

Sebastian Kornum won the first race of the day at nine to 13 knots. He was followed by Janis Preiss (LAT-23, GA-Sails), Vincent Langer (GER-1, Starboard, Severne), Christian Justesen and Helge Wilkens (GER-63, Starboard, Severne).

Christian Justesen decided the second race of the day in his favour. Janis Preiss from Latvia was in second position again. Sebastian Kornum, Vincent Langer and Gunnar Asmussen (GER-88, Patrik, North) completed the Top-5.

Winner of the third race was Sebastian Kornum once more. Vincent Langer kept contact with the top with another second place. Janis Preiss reached the third place in front of Christian Justesen and Gunnar Asmussen.

The Top-5 just changed their order for the last race of the day. Kornum, Langer and Preiss dominated the field in the same order. Gunnar Asmussen and Christian Justesen had a battle at the upwind mark which was decided in Asmussen’s favour. So he finished in fourth position followed by Justesen.

We have now reached the middle of the regatta days and have already raced four Slalom eliminations and seven Formula races. This enables the riders to have one discard in the Slalom and even two discards in the Racing. The Overall Ranking is led by Sebastian Kornum from Denmark followed by Janis Preiss and Vincent Langer. The best German, Vincent Langer, is still leading the discipline slalom which wasn’t raced today.

Within the Funboard Racing Championships it’s the combination of the Slalom and the Racing results that will count at the end. The total prize money for this championship is eur 10,000.

The forecast for the last regatta days promises spectacular windsurfing conditions at the Rollei Summer Opening presented by Volkswagen Nutzfahrzeuge on Sylt. The wind is predicted to come north-westerly with up to wind force seven on Saturday (May 31st , 2014). This would offer amazing conditions for the discipline Slalom. Furthermore the weather on the Final-Sunday looks brilliant, too. So we’re going to have a lot more of windsurfing on this wonderful event.
