Founded in 2005, the Top of the Gulf Regatta Presented by Ocean Marina is the region’s largest and most diverse regatta of its kind with keelboats and multihull classes racing over four days (1st to 4th May) and the dinghies, Thailand Optimist National Championships and RS:One Asian Championship racing over three days.

The championship, open to all, allowed international racers to compete through innovative race formats. RS:One is a multi generational, one-design windsurfing board featuring an easy and light performing 7.8 rig. Espoirs (youth under 22 years old), Seniors (under 40 year old) and Masters (older than 40), men and women, can race together on the same starting line in a collective fleet. [more]
Ocean Marina Yacht Club, Thailand’s premier marina resort complex, situated on the calm beach of Jomtien, Pattaya, delivered a fantastic three days of racing with nine races completed.
Excellent winds welcomed the championships kick-off but the RS:One windsurfers starting at 14:00 were caught in the eye of a storm and had to settle for a single race. The bumper fleet of 46 windsurfers competing for the RS:One Asian Championship crown includes top racers from around Asia with a strong showing from Thailand, and in the women’s fleet it was former Youth Olympic silver medallist and Rio-bound Thai star, Siriporn Kaewduangngam, who took an early lead while Indonesian I Nyoman Suartana sat at the top of the men’s division.
It was a busy and tiring second day for the windsurfers competing in the RS:One Asian Championship. After just a single race completed on the first day, race management finished five races today to get the series back on schedule. In the Men’s division, it was consistency from I Nyoman Suartana (INA) with three wins that saw him four points clear of Leung Pui Hei (HKG) with Geylord Coveta (PHI) in third. Thai top placed at the end of Day 2 was Natthaphong Phonoppharat in fifth.
Thailand Windsurfing Team claimed the top three positions in the Women fleet and a new Asian Champion title for Siripon Kaewduangngam while Kronggkaew Sakulfaeng has been crowned Espoir Asian Champion.
In the Men’s division, Ifoman Suartana from Indonesia dominated the competition to become the Asian 2016 Champion. Hong Kong with his young and promising racer Leung Pui Hei can be proud by claiming the Espoir title.
The RS:One Class now looks forward for its European Championships to be held in Loctudy, France and its World Championships in Penghu, Taiwan.
