“Lake sailing is very tricky, a lot of changes in the whole fleet, so I think it will be most important to sail consistently somewhere in the front,” said defending Champion Patrik Pollak. “As for today the first two starts were fine, but the last one not so good. I made all the wrong decisions, managed to finish 10th, but I’m not really happy with that,” he added.[more]
With offshore wind the sailors went out for three back to back races. Ladies started first and men followed closely. The most consistent today was Joao Rodrigues from Portugal, who came 2nd, 1st and 3rd today, but still shifty winds and competitors did not make it easy for him. Just taking a look at the women’s results gives you an idea of how important decision making was. The top two ladies, Anto La Balilla Gutierrez from Spain and Ilona Grinberga from Latvia, made a bad prediction and dropped a couple of places during the race. They are still in the lead in the overall classification.
Michal Jodlowski, PRO of the event, sums up the day: Gusty and shifty northerly breeze tested the sailors and their tactical abilities. However skill was not enough, some luck was needed as well. Hopefully tomorrow’s southerly breeze will be more stable and the luck factor will be less significant.
