After 6 years, the IFCA Slalom World Championships (International Funboard Class Association) for Junior, Youth and Master categories, will come back to Torbole. The Italian athletes, together with French, German and Dutch, are among the world’s strongest in slalom, where speed, choice of IFCA approved equipment and skill make the difference. In 2012, Italy had strong result in Torbole, with the victory in the categories of Master (Andrea Rosati), Grand Master (Robert Hofmann) and Under 13, with a very young Francesco Scagliola. But this year, Circolo Surf Torbole will also be celebrating the 40th anniversary of the club and its athletes will try to honour this event. From July 2nd to 7th – immediately after the RRD One Hour Classic – it will be the turn of IFCA Slalom World Championships: Alto Garda and especially Circolo Surf Torbole, are once again recognized as an important reference point for international windsurfing. We remind you that in 2019, the pre-Olympic year, the RS:X men and women Windsurfing World Championships are scheduled to be held at Circolo Surf Torbole.
Armando Bronzetti, Circolo Surf Torbole President: “Our athletes are ready to face the challenge of this IFCA YJM Slalom World Championships and to do their best on home waters. For this competition, we have set up a slalom team to get well trained on the regatta field with the aim to bring home important results. As Circolo Surf Torbole we are just as ready to host a high-level Championship, without neglecting details. Among the social events there will be two parties: One opening (coinciding with the RRD One Hour Classic final) and one closing the event. Thus, hoping to leave lasting a memories on and off the water.”
Carlo Cottafavi, AICW (Italian Association of Windsurfing Classes) President: “Torbole and slalom do not need any introduction: We are talking about the European Capital of wind powered sport, the place where all champions have passed and where all windsurfing manufacturers developed new ideas. Slalom is a discipline that has excited all of us and is currently evolving. We expect incredible results; It is a great opportunity for the whole windsurfing movement, in the perfect part of the season for windsurfing enthusiasts from all over the world!”
Bruno de Wannemaeker, IFCA President: “We are very happy to return to one of the best and most famous slalom locations in the world, it has been 6 years since the last Class World Championship on the waters of Lake Garda. This upcoming summer, the Junior, Youth & Masters Slalom World Championships will be one of the highlight events for the Class and we are all looking forward to collaborate with Circolo Surf Torbole, who have continuously shown their great support for young windsurfers and the slalom discipline.”
