Windsurfing Victoria will be holding an attempt for the “World’s Longest Windsurf Race” Guinness World Record. The attempt will be held in Melbourne’s scenic Port Phillip Bay.[more]
On the weekend of the 22/23 February, with contingency day 1st and 2nd March, windsurfers from around the state will be descending on Victoria’s beaches to prove their abilities in the ‘Port Phillip Downwinder’, a gruelling 30km windsurfing endurance race.
Starting at Bonbeach in Melbourne’s South, the course hugs the bay’s scenic eastern coastline, through to its conclusion in St Kilda at the top of the bay.
Spectators will be able to view the action as the windsurfers blast past within 50 metres of the coast at speeds between 20-30 knots.
The sailors will be making close passes near Ricketts South beach in Beaumaris, and Green Point Brighton. They will also be viewable along the length of Beach Road.
This event is not only a first for Melbourne, it’s also the longest of its type in the world! This will test their endurance in ways they never expected.
