From the 10th to the 15th of December 2012 the beautiful island of Boracay will play host to the inaugural world championships of the RS:One Class.[more]

Boracay Island is located in the Visayas region, the heart of the Philippine archipelago, approximately 315 km (196 mi) south of Manila. The Boracay Beach Resort is located at the heart of Boracay Island – a quiet respite from the island’s bustling party scene, but close enough to its heart for those who want a complete Boracay experience. The island is only seven kilometers long, dog-bone shaped with the narrowest spot being less than one kilometer wide.

Bulabog Beach, known as the mecca for windsurfing and kiteboarding in Asia, prides itself of playing host to the adrenaline-filled water and wind sports, particularly when the northeasterly winds or “Amihan” are blowing. During this season, from November to May, the wind takes Bulabog Beach into new heights and begins a season of non-stop rush of excitement and an entertaining spectacle of riding prowess. The features of Bulabog Beach are perfect for these two sports because of the flat water, on/side shore winds, shallow and reef protected lagoon. The water temperature expected in December is 28° C and air temperature will be around 30° C.

Neil Pryde explains “The real advantage that Boracay has over other Asian destinations is the reliability of the north easterly wind. To organize major events, we need reliable conditions and this is what Boracay offers plus an exciting night life off the water!”

For example, every January, the Asian windsurfing community comes together on the island for the Boracay International Funboard Cup. One of the people behind The Boracay Beach Resort is Nenette Graf, an international windsurfing champion and “Asia’s Fastest Woman”, who also operates a windsurfing and kitesurfing school on the island. Nenette and the Boracay Beach Resort are a big part of this international media event, which brings a hundred windsurfers from around the region to a week-long festival of windsurfing races and nightly parties, and offers the participants a hearty welcome year after year.
