The IFCA Slalom World Championships for women and the European Championships for men 2012 saw some more action on the water on the fourth and final day of the competition in Roses, Catalunya, Spain. [more]Both sailors, Karin Jaggi and Matteo Iachino, could defend their lead from the previous day and win the titles.
The ladies final at Roses
The ladies completed a full elimination, number 7, which was won by Turkish celebrity, upcoming Slalom racer and windsurfing school owner Cagla Kubat (TUR-75) from Alacati, who booked a place on the podium in the last minute. Kubat definitely has shown again, that she improved her speed and skills while the winter months a lot. Overall Karin Jaggi (Sui-14) took the victory and the IFCA Slalom World title in front of a very strong sailing Delphine Cousine (FRA-775) from France. Karin Jaggi, who currently leads in the 2012 PWA Slalom tour ranking, too, confirmed her strong form. Now the ladies fleet has a long summer break due to a lack of international Slalom events. Just the very young, juniors or youths or older ages can compete for the Youth and Master Slalom worldtitle at Torbole, Lake Garda while the second week of July 2012. The third PWA Slalom for the ladies will take place in Alacati, Turkey in the end of August.
Matteo Iachino won his first international windsurfing title
On the final day Matteo Iachino (ITA-140) defended his lead against his strong opponents. In really light elimination 4 of the men got started, but never came to end. Matteo and most of the big names qualified for the winner´s final, but then the wind dropped. In the end it was a really tight decision at Roses for the European Slalom title. The top 5 ranked sailors were within 3,3 points and the top 3 sailors within 1,8 points. Arnon Dagan (ISR-1) from Israel made it in second winning the silver medal. Again a second for him as he won the silver medal in the Formula Europeans a week ago at Sylt. Bora Kozanoglu, who has excellent speed this season, finished in third just a point ahead of Pierre Mortefon (FRA-14), the best placed French sailor. The competition saw most of the sailors from France in the men´s category with a 14 participants in total, followed by 12 sailors from France. Soon the next international Slalom competition will be started. And it´s a funny coincidence. It will be the PWA Slalom at the Costa Brava, just a few kilometers further south from Roses, at the Camping Ballena Allegra, where the third PWA Slalom of the season for men will be started on the 12th of June.
