A nice wind forecast for a long distance race heralded Day Three of racing. This race, approximately 4 miles each way, would count as two races and a challenging shorebreak had to be negotiated before getting to the start line. [more]Again Valentin Brault took both bullets with Fernando Martinez and Ivan Pastor second and third.
A cultural trip to Cadiz was enjoyed in the evening.
Day two . . . and no wind! Yet again a fabulous lunch was provided by Timon de Roche, but those that ate too much would regret it as race 3 was underway early afternoon, followed quickly by race 4 in great wind conditions.[more]
Timon de Roche proved to be the best vantage point to view the racing – better than in front of the TV! The windward mark was just off the Roche point – and the course was in full view of the customers on the restaurant terrace.
While competitors took a 30 minute break on-shore, the course was moved upwind, the start just off the beach in front of Timon de Roche. As Race 5 was completed, it seemed the wind was dropping a little but there was plenty left to complete race 6.
Valentin Brault, winner of every one of today’s races, has a perfect score at the top of the leaderboard, now the first discard has come into play, and is a full 6 points clear of his nearest rival Ivan Pastor. Fernando Martinez is in third place.
The wind forecast for Thursday looks stronger, perhaps with rain – stay tuned!!
Would you believe it? Day one for racing dawned with a beautiful sunrise; late breakfast (this is Spain!); functional skippers meeting ; fabulous lunch for competitors; 2 races delivered by an excellent race committee; a fabulous sunset, followed by an excellent dinner![more]
The wind forecast was not good, and at 15.00 most racers were ready to .. sleep off a great lunch provided by hosts Timon de Roche. No chance – the wind was picking up …as expected … as predicted .. by the local advisors to Race officer, Cesar Sans. For those of you not in Santa Pola in 2009, Cesar was PRO at one of the best events (EVER) on FW calendar. So … no problem, if there is wind – we race! Cesar was first to say “I am ready for more – your rules are prohibiting more racing ..”
Maybe we will change the championship rules – the Class AGM is moved to Wednesday evening … be there or send your email vote.
For today – 2 ties in the top 5 – it is going to be a close run race to the end! All starters, in both races, finished. The fleet included top racers from FW- plus masters, youths and women, some new to formula.
