A fantastic day’s racing in Praia Da Vitoria! 5 races – 3 back-to-back and then 2 more – in winds ranging from 8 to 15 knots. The day belonged to Thomas Goyard (FRA-3) with 3 bullets and 2 seconds and now he sits at the top of the leaderboard with 7 points. [more]
It’s very close at the top. Sebastian Kornum DEN-24, a top Formula racer, now very much focused on foiling, took the first bullet of the day. Julien Bontemps, Olympic Bronze Medallist in Beijing, took the last – both are tied on 11 points.
Thomas Goyard is the RS1 Convertible Men’s European Champion, where his nearest rivals were also Bontemps and Kornum.
The chasing pack are 11 points off the podium positions despite a 2nd place in race 3 snatched by Benjamin Tillier (FRA-39) in fourth, Camille Bouyer with very consistent results in 5th, and Alexandre Cousin’s couple of third places – his best results – putting him in sixth place.[more]
Over in the Women’s fleet, Guilbaud Maelle (FRA-5), the 2017 RSOne Convertible Women’s European Champion, has a perfect score, showing her dominance by claiming 4 bullets from 5 races, but it was very close between the following sailors. Helois Macquaert (FRA-946) and Emily Hall (GBR-714) are both on 11 points but Marina Alabau (ESP-5) and Lola Sorin FRA-13) are still in contention for podium positions.
Racing is always a challenge in this sailing area but races are exciting and short with a target time of 12 minutes for the first finisher. The feedback from all the competitors is, no matter what their background, “this racing is fun, it is very competitive out there and they are enjoying their racing”.
Stay tuned!
