The RS:One Windsurfing ISAF Class, in partnership with the FFV and the Cercle Nautique de Loctudy, has held its 2015 European Championships from the 5th to 11th July in Loctudy, France.
The championship, open to all, allowed international racers to compete through innovative race formats like The Pulsar (compact slalom with reaching start, America’s Cup style), Marathon (long distance) and classical Regatta. Courses were set up in a way that the on-shore audience could enjoy the races.[more]
The last day of the competition was probably the most challenging with shifty off shore winds from 6 to 12 knots. The “Regatta” course was chosen to add to more tactical races for a total of 15 races.
Faustine Merret, the 2004 Olympic Gold medalist, is crowned 2015 European Female Champion ahead of the Spanish racer Pilar Lamadrid Trueba (2015 European Espoir Champion) and Jeane Penfornis from France.
Pedro Pascual, from USA, won with style the 2015 European Male Champion title. French Maxime Abiven is awarded from his last 2 days efforts with an 2nd place ahead of the 2013 European Champion Hugo Tanguy Mollard from France.
The European Champions will be invited, all expenses paid, to the 2015 RS:One World Championships to be held in the picturesque Taal Lake (Philippines) with its majestic volcano from the 7th till 12th December. An extra invitation has been be given as the number 1 lucky withdraw prize.
